Residence for EU citizens and their families

Romania is an EU member. The ordinary initial work permit is not the general route for its citizens. For residence over three months, we check the applicable conditions and EU registration.

Not on its own. The NIE identifies you and padrón records municipal registration; they do not replace the residence requirements or the relevant document.

It documents EU citizen registration and does not replace your passport or national identity document. It differs from a card issued to a non-EU family member.

Employment is not the only situation covered. There are conditions for employment, self-employment, studies and resources with health cover. We assess which applies.

The relationship and requirements for both people need checking. Age, dependency, cohabitation or other circumstances may matter; not all relatives qualify automatically.

Not always. A specific authorisation exists for relatives of Spanish nationals. Exercising free movement can determine whether EU rules apply; we check that history before selecting the procedure.

Padrón alone does not establish every condition. Generally, five years of lawful continuous residence are assessed under the applicable rules and specific cases, together with absences and evidence.
