Frequently asked questions
Is renewing a TIE the same as renewing residence?
No. The permission and its conditions are distinct from the card documenting it. You may need to renew permission before obtaining a new TIE or complete a different procedure.
When should I start the renewal?
Review the permit before expiry. Deadlines depend on the authorisation; we establish the applicable period from your decision and dates rather than use one rule for every case.
Can I continue working while it is pending?
It depends on the permit and the conditions and date of filing. In some procedures, timely filing extends the previous permission. We check whether that effect applies and how to evidence it.
Can you provide fingerprints for me or guarantee an appointment?
We cannot replace personal police formalities or guarantee appointment availability. We can help prepare documents and explain the steps.
What if my card is lost or stolen?
A replacement does not renew the underlying permission or itself extend its validity. We assess your status, any required report and documents for a new card.
Can I travel with an expired card and a renewal receipt?
Do not assume the receipt permits departure and re-entry in every situation. Review your documents, destination, transit and whether a return authorisation may apply before travelling.
What if my permission has already expired?
We review the dates and procedure promptly to assess any remaining options and consequences. The answer depends on the application and circumstances.
Is a NIE renewed?
A NIE is an identification number, not residence permission. Its presence on a card or certificate does not establish that your permission remains valid.
